Sun Bowl
Palisades Tahoe

About this zone
Sun Bowl is a southeast-facing, advanced fall-line bowl off Headwall spanning roughly 8,680–7,716 ft. Long sun exposure makes it a reliable soft-snow zone; skiers will find steep, often mogul-churned pitches that grow very large with traffic. The bowl feeds a short traverse at the bottom that funnels you toward C2 Ridge—expect variable ruts, occasional exposed rock ribs, and heavy skier traffic.
Best When
Mid-morning to early afternoon on clear days—SE sun softens firm snow quickly. For corn, aim late morning–early afternoon after a cold clear night (freeze–thaw). After light, cold storms it loosens faster than shaded north aspects.
Watch Out For
Monstrous, skier-packed moguls and hidden ice bands; the lower short traverse forces exposure and can bottleneck into C2 Ridge. Check lines before you drop—rocks and sun-crust show up early/late season and traffic creates punchy ruts.
