About this zone

Headwall Ridge is where you go when you want steep, fall-line skiing with a few signature lines that keep things interesting. Runs like Light Towers, Classic, and Hourglass drop you in with a short, serious pitch before easing off toward Lost Lake. The ridge rewards a little patience: the farther you traverse before you drop, the more the terrain backs off and the more options you get.

Best When

It’s at its best right after a cold storm, especially when prevailing SW winds have been loading the north-facing terrain. It can also ski well midday once a hardened crust has had time to soften. Late-winter cold spells tend to keep this zone more consistent by limiting melt–freeze cycles.

Watch Out For

Narrow chutes, rock bands and cornices are common—pick lines deliberately and control speed. Thin snow can hide rocks and cornices; visibility or gusty winds make consequences severe.
