Headwall Face
Palisades Tahoe

About this zone
Headwall Face is a northeast-facing zone tucked just under the lift line, with a direct, fall-line feel and a reputation as a local go-to. Lines like Hogsback and The Slot set the tone: steeper, more technical skiing where you can pick a lane and let it run. It holds snow well, skis chalky when it hasn’t snowed in a while, and tends to develop consistent bumps once it gets worked over.
Best When
This zone is at its best right after a storm when the snow stays cold and protected, and it stays relevant between storms thanks to its higher-elevation, northeast-facing coverage. It’s a good choice when you want a few focused laps on steeper terrain without hunting for gimmicks, and it rewards early timing before traffic stacks up and the surface gets pushed into deep moguls.
Watch Out For
Moguls form quick due to high traffic and often get quite deep. Pitch can be quite high too, for example near the top of The Slot. Some areas require a hike, and there are brief areas of moderate to high exposure to be mindful of if you explore off the beaten path.
