North Bowl zone

About this zone

North Bowl is the main gateway if you’re coming up from Boulder Lodge on the Nevada side. It’s a broad, north-facing bowl anchored by North Bowl Express, with a mix of advanced groomers, cleared runs, and legit tree skiing. Skiers’ left pulls you into glades like Nevada Woods and The Burn, which ski playful and technical when filled in. Stay closer to the lift line and you’ll find more open, consistent fall-line runs. It’s a high-traffic zone, but for good reason: this is where the upper mountain starts to open up.

Best When

North Bowl shines mid-winter when storms stack cold snow on its north-facing terrain and the trees hold soft turns days after a storm. It’s a solid early stop if you’re entering from Boulder, or a reliable fallback when sunnier aspects elsewhere start to firm up. It also works well for lapping when visibility is mixed, thanks to defined terrain and tree cover, and it’s a key transition zone if you’re moving toward Olympic, Dipper, or Comet.

Watch Out For

This is a major access point, so lift lines and traffic can build quickly, especially on weekends. The glades reward good snow coverage but get tight and technical when it’s thin. In flat light, the open bowl can feel featureless, and the amount of skier traffic means conditions change fast. Stay aware of where you’re headed—North Bowl funnels into a lot of other zones, and it’s easy to drift farther than intended.
