About this zone

Tucked between the busier zones, Yellow is a compact, no-nonsense pocket of rolling terrain that skis better than it looks on the map. It’s a quick hit when you don’t want a long traverse or a big commitment, and it can hold onto surprisingly decent snow when the more exposed parts of the mountain get worked by weather. The vibe is straightforward: a few short pitches, some shelter, and efficient laps when you time it right.

Best When

Yellow is a good call after cold storms, especially if the upper mountain got wind-scoured and you’re looking for snow that stayed protected. It also comes into its own later in the day or a day after a storm, when the obvious zones are tracked out and you want something quieter that still skis well without hunting for leftovers.

Watch Out For

Expect thinner coverage early season, with rocks and stumps closer to the surface than in deeper zones. Areas nearer Gunner’s Knob tend to set up firmer, so be ready for a harder, faster surface and the occasional surprise patch if you’re moving quickly.
