Poma Rocks
Alpine Meadows

About this zone
Poma Rocks sits way out on the far northern edge of Alpine, the terrain you glimpse on the right as you drive into the base area. It’s a quiet, remote-feeling zone reached by riding Summit and pushing past Wolverine, Beaver Bowl, and the tail end of Estelle. The terrain is mostly east-facing and a bit lower than the ridge, with Estelle rising above it. Expect a mix of open bowls, rock features, short cliffs, and scattered trees, all funneling down toward the Kangaroo area. It skis wild and a little untamed, mostly because not many people bother to come out this far.
Best When
This zone shines when you’re hunting untracked snow well after a storm or looking to get away from the core Alpine crowds. The east-facing aspect holds cold snow nicely in midwinter, especially since skier traffic is light. It’s a commit-and-explore kind of zone, best for days when you’re not in a rush and are willing to trade convenience for solitude and character.
Watch Out For
Access is a long slog and the exits matter. If you drift too far skier’s left, you can end up toward the parking area with an annoying walkout. The terrain is rocky and cliffy in spots, with limited visibility into lines if you don’t know the zone. Once you drop in, you’re committed to skiing it cleanly and navigating the funnel back toward Kangaroo, so route-finding and awareness are part of the deal.
