Deer Camp
Alpine Meadows

About this zone
Deer Camp is a mid-angle, tree-threaded zone on east to northeast aspects that suits confident intermediates. Expect sustained cruiser fall-lines broken by short rollovers, gladed lanes and meadow edges rather than sustained cliffs. Trees shelter snow from ridgetop gusts, so pockets of soft snow linger between trunks while open benches offer straightforward, visible lines and broad views across the basin.
Best When
Mid-morning once east faces soften from overnight freeze; after a cold, low-density Sierra powder when the tree cover preserves fluff; and following SW wind events when sheltered gullies retain protected snow.
Watch Out For
Tree wells and hidden stumps/rocks along meadow transitions, especially after low-snow winters; variable crust or firm tracked bands after sunny days followed by overnight freeze; tight entries to some lanes can create sudden pitch changes.
